Canada vs. U.S. View: Are Cultural Diversity and Employment Equity Linked?
In the "old days," it was not unusual to see a white employee receive higher wages than a non-white even though the jobs both were doing were comparable. Black lawyers, for example, who struggled through law school in the 1950s, are known to have taken clerk jobs because all the other legitimate channels to exercising their profession were closed. This has been the plight of women and immigrants too, in varying degrees. People who fall into the category of "minorities' may suffer an unfair or inequitable situation at work. Hence the question above: is there a relationship between cultural diversity and employment equity?
